The upcoming salary cap reduction won’t be a hindrance to the Miami Heat if they decide to make a move for Giannis Antetokounmpo next summer

The NBA and NBPA have been discussing a minimum of 2% annual growth in the salary cap and luxury tax for the duration of the collective bargaining agreement (through 2023-24) and the cap is expected to be $109M this offseason, as was reported by Shams Charania.

If that stays the case, it would mean a $111.3M cap for the 2021-22 season which is much less than the original $125M. However, it would still, per Albert Nahmad, allow the Miami Heat to create a max salary slot for a player such as Giannis Antetokounmpo while potentially even having some cap room left over.

While Giannis didn’t show publicly any desire to leave the Bucks, the Heat and the Mavericks are expected to pursue the Greek Freak once his contract expires at the end of the upcoming season and it would be that much more plausible if the Bucks don’t fulfill their superstar’s postseason expectations.
