Deni Avdija: I don’t care where I go, I care that the team will maximize my potential

While Deni Avdija is projected to be a lottery pick in the 2020 NBA Draft and to potentially be selected even 2nd overall, his main focus isn’t his position but to be at the right place to help the team and make the most out of his talent.

“Being one of the top 10 picks in the NBA Draft is for sure a goal for every player,”Avdija said in a zoom call. “But for me, it’s less this and more being at the right team, with the right situation that can help me develop and be the best Deni I can be. At the end of the day, you look at the end of your career and not with which pick you were drafted.”

Avdja has met with numerous teams, including the Golden State Warriors. Steve Kerr and co. were reported to be “blown away” by what the Israeli forward showed them when it comes to both his game and his character.

“Great organization, great team, and a great situation for me. [But] I don’t really care where I go, I just care that the team that’s going to draft me is going to maximize my potential and I’ll be a good part of the team,” Avdija said. “At the end of the day, that’s my goal.”

On November 18, Avdija will be hearing his name being called with NBA commissioner Adam Silver announcing him as a player “from Israel”. It’s something that already feels special for him.

“It’s always an honor to represent your country, wherever you go,” Avdija said. “Israel is a small country and we don’t provide as many players as other places. For me, to put the flag wherever I go is important and I’m proud to do that.
