James Harden declined a contract extension with the Houston Rockets and an NBA record $50M salary making it clear that he wants to be traded to the Brooklyn Nets, reports ESPN.
His current contract runs through the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons, also includes a player option for the 2022-23 season. He wants to make the most out of the two next years before potentially deciding on his next step as a free agent.
In this context, 31-year-old Harden believes that a move to the Nets to play alongside Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving rather than remaining with the Rockets will get the championship ring closer, the latest report notes.
His current team in no rush towards a deal looks keen on maximizing the return for Harden. So far, the trade talks have not evolved into meaningful discussions.
