Bam Adebayo will receive a contract extension from the Miami Heat, according to multiple reports Tuesday. The plan is to re-sign the 2020 All-Star to a five-year, $163M contract, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.
The latest decision made by the Florida organization directly affects the reported effort to bring in Giannis Antetokounmpo next summer. Salary cap restrictions attached to the contract extension limit maneuvering space but do not exclude a potential sign-and-trade addition. Simply put, the move complicates the situation, or perhaps the Heat believe the Greek Freak will stay out of the market by inking a supermax extension.
Adebayo, 23, was fired up in his third season since being selected 14th overall in the 2017 draft coming out of Kentucky. He averaged 15.9 points, 10.2 rebounds, 5.1 assists, 1.3 blocks, and 1.1 steals per regular-season appearance, and added 17.8 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 4.4 assists in the playoffs run stretching to the Finals.
