With the NBA starting off its training camps next week, the league has issued a detailed safety protocol that was sent to the teams, as reported by ESPN.
According to Tim Bontemps, the document is similar to the one issued for the NBA bubble in Florida for the conclusion of the 2019-20 season, though this time it takes into consideration extra precautions given the fact that there is no bubble in place.
“The league has constructed a rules system for what will happen when someone tests positive for COVID-19. Under such a scenario, there are two potential paths to return: a “time-based” resolution, and a “test-based” resolution”, per ESPN.
Under the time-based resolution, anyone who tests positive will have to either go away at least 10 days after the date of their first test or the start of any symptoms, if any and remain off at least 24 hours after their fever went away without any medication. For the test-based resolution, the person must turn at least two negative PCR tests from samples taken at least 24 hours apart.
Once a player passes the 10-day threshold, they will practice on their own for two days, not interacting with anyone or participating in any team activities, wearing a mask at all times when at the facility and must undergo a cardiac screening.
On top of these guidelines, the league will establish an anonymous hotline to report any potential violations of safety protocols during in-market play for the 2020-21 season, as The Athletic’s Shams Charania reports.
