Newly signed Atlanta Hawks guard Bogdan Bogdanovic spoke to reporters via a teleconference on Wednesday, discussing his decision to move to Atlanta, his thoughts during the free agency, as well as the reaction of former Hawks big man Pero Antic upon learning that Bogdanovic has signed with Atlanta.
“This is a perfect situation for me”, explained Bogdanovic to reporters, despite the fact that the free agency was “stressful, exciting, crazy, a lot of good problems”, mentioning that he’s happy it’s over.
Bogdanovic, 28, spent three seasons with Sacramento Kings in his first NBA experience and was asked about whether it was his preference that Sacramento did not match his offer sheet. “Since SAC didn’t do any moves in the offseason, I was like, OK, I’m ready to leave. I was excited about Atlanta”, he mentioned.
The Serbian player then revealed how Pero Antic encouraged him about his decision to join the Hawks. The two were teammates in Fenerbahce after the latter left the Hawks in 2015 to make his return to Europe. “I had a friend of mine here playing, Pero Antic. We played together in Turkey on Fenerbahce. He was mad that he left the city of Atlanta back then. He was pretty excited that I got here and I think he will help me a lot”, he said.
But it wasn’t just Antic who reached out to him; as he revealed, he has been also contacted by Trae Young, Danilo Gallinari and Clint Capela after he signed.
Bogdanovic also mentioned he only has good feelings for his former team, stating “I’m going to cheer for them. I wish them all the best.”
