Utah Jazz star Donovan Mitchell has pledged a donation of 12 million to Greenwich Country Day School which he attended between the third and ninth grade. The donation, which is the largest in the school’s history, is made by Mitchell, his mother Nicole and his sister Jordan who graduated from GCDS in 2017. Nicole Mitchell used to teach in the school for over a decade.

“As great an athlete as he was, Donovan was an even nicer young man,” GCDS Head of School Adam Rohdie said in the announcement of Mitchell’s donation. “He is a man of the highest character and he has lived his life embodying the Country Day creed of TIGER PRIDE which asks our students to be kind, empathetic, respectful, thoughtful, and to act with the highest levels of integrity.”

Mitchell’s donation serve to boost a scholarship fund for low-income students a faculty support fund and a new gymnasium.

In November, the Jazz officially announced that Mitchell signed a five-year max extension with the team.
