A hitch in the plan delayed the jersey number exchange, but LeBron James still intends to give No.23 to his Los Angeles Lakers teammate Anthony Davis and wear No.6. He wanted to switch back to No. 6 last summer, but Nike delayed the plan until after the conclusion of the approaching 2020-21 season set to begin on December 22.

James, 35, wore No. 6 during his time with the Miami Heat. As a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers, he originally went with No. 23 to honor his idol Michael Jordan.
Davis, 27, was No. 23 for the New Orleans Pelicans but changed his long-time number stretching back to his high school years to No. 3 since joining the Lakers.
