Paul Gasol is aiming for his potential return to the NBA to be something more than him just being another guy at the roster who spends most of his time at the end of the bench. What the former two-time champion has set as his goal is to join a team but join a team and actually have the role of a contributor on the floor.
“I want the opportunity to contribute — to feel needed,” Gasol said in an interview with ESPN’s Zach Lowe. “Not just to be there. That’s not who I am. I want to enjoy it, and players usually enjoy playing.”
Gasol never hid the fact that a return to the Los Angeles Lakers has quite the appeal to him. It could also provide possibly the ideal situation of a team to close his career with.
Even more so now when signing with the Lakers would mean becoming a teammate with his brother Marc.
There is meaning and history there,” Gasol said. “I’m not going to lie. It would be very special, and now that my brother [Marc] is there, even more special. But I’m not in a position now to be very demanding. I don’t have 10 offers on the table.”
