Luka Doncic made it to the 4th position of ESPN’s Top 100 players rank for the 2020-21 season and stirred up criticism from NBA analyst Skip Bayless.
“Riddle me this, the 4th best player who says the NBA ranking, can’t shoot, can’t clutch shoot, and is a defensive liability. Help me out here, I give you, really gifted passer, maybe second to LeBron”, Bayless said on the ‘Skip and Shannon: Undisputed’ show.
“He finally makes a walk-off against my Clippers and before them, last season, in last-minute shots, potential game-tying or go-ahead shots, he was 0 for 10 in the fourth quarter or overtime. 0 for 10 until he finally made it, he was 1 for 11. Clutch? He had 21 missed 3-point shots in the final minutes of games last year, that ranked last in the NBA.”
Doncic, 22, is on to his third year in the league and has proved to be Mavericks‘ go-to guy on many occasions in his sophomore year. He averaged 28.8 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 8.8 assists per contest of the regular season and went on with 31 points per playoffs tilt in the first-round series versus the Los Angeles Clippers.
The debate regarding playing solid defense and its actual impact can go on forever. Still very young, Doncic can still improve on both ends of the court.
