Charlotte Hornets forward Gordon Hayward suffered an avulsion fracture in the fifth finger on his right hand during Charlotte’s 112-109 loss to the Toronto Raptors on Monday, per the team’s announcement.
Hayward is listed as day-to-day, putting his status for the season opener against Cleveland Cavaliers on December 23 in doubt. The Hornets acquired Hayward in a sign-and-trade deal this offseason and he started both of the team’s preseason games against Toronto, averaging 12.5 points.
30-year-old Hayward suffered a broken bone in his left hand in November 2019, and faced nerve issues in his previously injured left foot in December last year. He then missed 12 of Boston’s 17 playoff games inside the NBA bubble this summer after a Grade 3 right ankle sprain suffered in a Game 1 win against the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round.
