The Washington Wizards had to face a couple of setbacks in the game against the Miami Heat since they missed Bradley Beal (not only the team’s but the league’s leading scorer) and Russell Westbrook.
Enter Deni Avdija. The Israeli forward was more aggressive in the extra role he assumed on the Wizards‘ offense and looked the part by scoring 20 points (on 7-15 from the field), grabbing five rebounds and sending five assists (also a personal best with the Wizards) to his teammates in his top performance since he joined the NBA. Washington ultimately lost despite Avdija’s efforts and consecutive shots that led a comeback charge for his team.
Avdija hit three out of his five 3-pointers overall in a row during the final minutes for a 9 -0 run that cut his team deficit to five points with 1:18 to play. Washington needed more though to complete the turnaround.
