Denver Nuggets coach Mike Malone talked about how important was the part that Facu Campazzo played in the 117 – 113 win over the Dallas Mavericks and particularly his energetic contribution on both ends.
“That group that started the fourth quarter played really hard, defended on high level and they played with passion,” Malone said. “And I thought they played hard and good things happen when you play heard. I know it’s cliche but it’s so true. And that shows who Campazzo is. He plays hard whether he plays for two minutes, 10, 20, 30. He’s going to play the same way.”
Campazzo, who was facing former Real Madrid teammate Luka Doncic, was on the floor when the Nuggets turned a 91 – 94 deficit to a 104 – 100 lead with six minutes to play. He pulled off a couple of defenses, stole balls and helped initiate offense, overall influencing the game more than what his numbers (two assists, two rebounds, 0-1 shots in 13 minutes) showed.
“He has an impact, he makes plays on both ends, he makes plays for his teammates on offense,” Malone said. “And he just competes on a really high level on defense. What he lacks in size he more than makes up with the size of his heart and his competitive spirit.
