The Minnesota Timberwolves relieved Ryan Saunders, the team announced Sunday evening. The next head coach will be Toronto Raptors assistant, Chris Finch, as reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Per the press release: “Minnesota Timberwolves President of Basketball Operations Gersson Rosas tonight announced the team has relieved Ryan Saunders of his duties as Head Coach, effective immediately.
“We would like to thank Ryan for his time and commitment to the Timberwolves organization and wish him the best in the future,” said Rosas. “These are difficult decisions to make, however this change is in the best interest of the organization’s short and long-term goals.”
Additional details surrounding the announcement of the next Timberwolves Head Coach will be made Monday, February 22.”
Finch, 51, will likely be soon confirmed as the new boss. The Raptors do not intend to stop him from becoming an NBA head coach for the first time, notes ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
The incoming coach for the Minnesota organization, former boss of the Great Britain national team, has worked under various head coaches for the Houston Rockets, Denver Nuggets, and New Orleans Pelicans at the NBA level, prior to joining the Raptors in December.
The Timberwolves sit last in the standings at 7-24.
