Soccer star Zlatan Ibrahimovic said that while he admires Lebron James as a player he would prefer to see him not talking about any political matters.
In an interview with Discovery+ Sport Sweden, Ibrahimovic mentioned that he believes famous players and athletes should skip being vocal on anything related to politics because their profession doesn’t involve them.
Here’s what Ibrahimovic said:
“He’s phenomenal in what he’s doing, but I don’t like when people… when they have some kind of ‘status’ and they do politics at the same time. Do what you’re good at. I play football because I’m the best in playing football, I don’t do politics. If I’d been a politician, I would do politics. This is the first mistake famous people do when they become famous and come in a certain status.
Stay out of it. Just do what you’re best at because it doesn’t look good”
James has been one of the most outspoken NBA players on political and social justice issues and was particularly critical of Donald Trump and his presidency over the last couple of years.
Two years ago, Fox News host conservative host Laura Ingraham attacked Lebron and Kevin Durant after they slammed Trump for his policies and lack of empathy, particularly on racial injustice. In a segment on her show, Ingraham lashed at Lebron for his comments and finished by saying the now infamous “Shut up and dribble.”
James posted the following video on his Instagram account in response
