Although the Atlanta Hawks got a close 125-124 win over the Washington Wizards, the night and all the spotlights belonged to one man only – Russell Westbrook.
In his 13th NBA season, Westbrook achieved an amazing feat as he passed Oscar Robertson on the all-time list of triple-doubles. The 32-year-old Wizards guard logged his 182nd tripled-double with 28 points, 13 rebounds and 21 assists.
“It’s just a blessing. You put so much into the game, so much time, you sacrifice so much, to be able to just be mentioned with guys like Oscar, Magic [Johnson] and Jason Kidd, those guys, is something I never dreamed about as a young kid growing up in L.A. Truly grateful for moments like this. Normally I don’t like to pat myself on the back but tonight I will. Just because I am so grateful for the ones before me and so blessed,” the nine times NBA All-Star said and added.
“I never really thought about it honestly. I just kind of go out and play and every night I try to do things that people say can’t be done. My motto is ‘Why not?’ That’s how I live and that’s how I think. Each and every time I step on the floor, I try to do things that people said I can’t do over the years and proving people wrong.”
