Turkish power forward Alperen Sengun has submitted paperwork to make himself eligible for the 2021 NBA draft, as reported by ESPN’s Jonathan Givony and later on confirmed by the player himself on his social media.
18-year old Sengun has been having a stellar season with Besiktas in Turkey, averaging 19.2 points, 9.4 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.7 blocks and 1.3 steals in 28 minutes per game in the Turkish league, while shooting 65% from the field and 81% from the free-throw line.
Early in May, Sengun has stated that his goal was to go directly to the NBA after finishing the season with Besiktas, while he looks to improve after making his jump overseas.
Per Givony, Sengun plans to join the Turkish NT for the Olympic Qualification tournament in late June, and if the nation doesn’t qualify, he will head to the United States in July to prepare for the NBA pre-draft process.
Following Sengun’s steps, Fenerbahce’s Tarik Biberovic and BC Dynamic VIP PAY prospects Mert Akay and Gregor Glas have also declared for the upcoming draft, as announced earlier on Wednesday.
