Gregg Popovich traveled to Connecticut to see Tim Duncan inducted in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame instead of coaching the San Antonio Spurs in the home fixture versus the Phoenix Suns on Saturday.
“Everybody knows the story, but it’s true. That’s something that we’re all very happy about. We still toast him when we have dinners; as we’ve said before, ‘Thank you, Timmy.’” said Popovich earlier this month on Duncan.
He won five NBA championships with the member of the Hall of Fame Class of 2020. The enshrinement ceremony was originally planned to be held eight months ago but was pushed back due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Spurs are already locked in tenth place leading to the Western Conference play-in tournament. Popovich is expected back to his usual role on Saturday for the second straight home game against the Suns and regular-season finale.
