Jason Kidd won’t pursue Blazers’ head coaching vacancy

After the Portland Trail Blazers parted ways with coach Terry Stotts, team superstar Damian Lillard expressed his wish for the team to pursue Jason Kidd as the replacement.

However, Kidd felt uncomfortable with that and, according to Adrian Wojnarowski, decided not to put Lillard, Portland, and himself in an awkward situation and has withdrawn his name from the race.

“Portland’s a first-class organization and will have great candidates for its head coaching job, but I’ve decided not to be one of them. Whoever they choose will have big shoes to fill from Terry,” Kidd said.

The Blazers have yet to ask for permission to speak to any potential candidates but the Clippers assistant Chauncey Billups, former New York Knicks and Houston Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy, Brooklyn Nets assistant Mike D’Antoni and Michigan coach Juwan Howard have been considered for the job.
