The Indiana Pacers fired coach Nate Bjorkgsen in early June after the squad failed to reach the playoffs for the first time since 2015, and the team has now decided on the replacement – Rick Carlisle.
Carlisle, who recently parted ways with the Dallas Mavericks after a 13-year-long run, will pen a four-year deal worth 29 million dollars, according to Tim MacMahon.
Pacers worked quietly and quickly to get a deal done. The team had planned to start interviews with several candidates in Chicago this week. Carlisle was a top assistant to Larry Bird early in his coaching career with the Pacers.
Carlisle led the Mavs to 40+ wins in the last two seasons, reaching the playoffs but getting eliminated in the first round by the Clippers in both instances.
