Just hours after the initial reports about a potential Ricky Rubio trade, according to Adrian Wojnarowski, the Spanish star is traded to Cleveland Cavaliers alongside a 2022 second-round pick and cash for Taurean Prince. The trade was made official on Tuesday.
27 years old Prince was traded from Brooklyn to Cleveland in January as part of the James Harden trade.
Rubio, 30, has been traded three times since launching his NBA career in 2009. The Minnesota Timberwolves sent him to the Utah Jazz and got him back last summer a couple of days after he was shipped from the Phoenix Suns to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
He will become an unrestricted free agent after the conclusion of the 2021-22 season.
The 5th pick of the 2009 NBA draft is currently in Tokyo with the Spanish national team. A 22-point effort paired with nine assists highlighted his opening effort versus host Japan and went on with 26 points, five rebounds, four assists in just over 25 minutes against Argentina. His side is up 2-0 in Group C of the preliminary round.
Rubio logged 8.6 points, 6.4 assists, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per 2020-21 NBA appearance, his tenth season in the league.
