The New Orleans Pelicans have agreed to a three-year contract with Willy Hernangomez, reports Shams Charania of The Athletic. The deal was made official, Monday 16 August.
Hernangomez, 27, recently became a free agent after his fifth NBA season. He initially signed with the Pelicans last November. He logged 7.8 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game in 2020-21.
The Spanish center was selected 35th overall in the 2015 NBA draft by the Philadelphia 76ers. After his rights were traded to the New York Knicks, he went on to play in his first 98 NBA games. In 2018 he was traded to the Charlotte Hornets and logged 111 more appearances. He recorded 47 more matches last season.
He recently represented his country in the 2020 Olympic Games averaging 6.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per contest in Tokyo. Spain was eliminated by the USA in the quarterfinals.
