Just a few days before the start of the training camps and after having him present the new players of the team, including former Barcelona guard Leandro Bolmaro, Gersson Rosas was released from his duties as President of Basketball Operations of the Minnesota Timberwolves. Rosas was acting as the GM of the team and there’s no explanation about this decision.

Timberwolves/Lynx owner Glen Taylor released the following statement: “Today, the Minnesota Timberwolves parted ways with President of Basketball Operations Gersson Rosas. As an organization, we remain committed to building a winning team that our fans and city can be proud of.”

Rosas was accused directly by Spanish federation president Jorge Garbajosa for not letting Juancho Hernangomez play in the Olympic Games. However, it’s safe to assume that this decision was not connected in any way with today’s turn of events.

Minnesota hired Rosas, a former Houston Rockets executive, in May 2019, making him the highest-ranking Latino in a front-office position.

Minnesota Timberwolves EVP of Basketball Operations Sachin Gupta is expected to be promoted to the franchise’s interim head of basketball operations, according to various reports.

The Wolves finished near the bottom of the Western Conference during both seasons of Rosas’ tenure, going 19-45 in 2019-20 and 23-49 last season.
