Philadelphia 76ers All-Star guard Ben Simmons showed up to the franchise’s practice camp Friday as expected and spoke to coach Doc Rivers, teammate Joel Embiid (by whom he was harshly criticized a few days prior), and the entire Sixers team as well as the medical professionals, per reports by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
According to the report, Simmons “accepted everyone needs to take responsibility, including himself”, but he informed the organization he’s not mentally prepared to play, as it was also reported Thursday.
Simmons, 25, was reported to shoot around in the training facility Friday ahead of the Brooklyn Nets season-opener and was seen “engaged around the team”. Earlier this week, coach Rivers and the Sixers organization have dismissed and suspended the All-Star guard due to conduct detrimental to the team.
Simmons’ current medical status has to be re-examined by the franchise’s medical staff and the next steps will be based upon this evaluation.
