Luka Doncic hit a spectacular and contested buzzer-beater from the 3-point line to hand the Dallas Mavericks a win over the Boston Celtics. It was the third game-winner from beyond the arc in the Slovenian star’s NBA career so far, a number that
Thanks to this outstanding shot vs. the Celtics, Doncic tied Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki for the most game-winning buzzer-beaters in the history of the club, per ESPN Stats & Info. It won’t be surprising if Luka, the new face of the franchise after Dirk’s retirement, passes the German great quite soon.
Apart from Doncic, the only other NBA players with three 3-pointers for the win in their resume are Kevin Durant, Damian Lillard and Kobe Bryant, per Hoopshype’ Tiko de Roa. Vince Carter has the most by any other NBAer with five.
Overall, this is Doncic’s fourth 3-pointer that is also a buzzer-beater and game-winner since he also had one during his EuroLeague years. It was against Crvena Zvezda on March 30 that Doncic drained one of his stepback classics in the very last second to hand Real Madrid a road win.
Few months afterward, he would win EuroLeague season and Final Four MVP while leading Real to the championship title.
“I tried to go to my spot and I got it. That’s it,” Doncic said after the win over the Celtics. “I just try to make it every time.”
