It was about four minutes before the end of the game between the Utah Jazz and Indiana Pacers when Rudy Gobert and Myles Turner had an altercation after the latter blocked the Frenchman’s shot.
Gobert fell down on the court and took a hold of Turner’s shorts, also taking him down. And while the game kept going, the two men were missing from the next play, then appeared to have entered in a fight in the next frames of the following video:
Gobert’s Jazz teammates Donovan Mitchell and Joe Ingles, as well as security guards, interfered trying to separate the two. After reviewing the play, the referees charged both with technical fouls, and both were ejected from the game. It was Gobert’s second technical of the night.
Adding up to the sanctions, Mitchell and Ingles, too, got ejected from the game. Ingles was spotted shoving one of the officials, while Mitchell went for the Pacers bench.
“Twenty years ago, they would let you fight a little more. I can’t put myself in a position where I’m hurting my team. I’ve got more to lose. I’ve got to stand up for myself, but I’m not going to get suspended”, Gobert said in his post-game quotes.
“I had to stand up for myself in that situation,” Turner said, explaining his own side of the story. “I don’t think I did anything wrong. But that’s not for me to decide. We’ll talk to the league and see what happens from there.”
The incident happened just a few days after a heated moment between Nikola Jokic and Markieff Morris, which resulted in a one-game suspension for the reigning MVP and a fine for Heat‘s Morris.
