Nikola Jokic, Luka Doncic drop triple-doubles in wins

A big night for Nikola Jokic and Luka Doncic, who posted triple-doubles in respective wins

It was a Friday night full of action in the NBA with plenty of European presence and big-time performances.

Starting with Nikola Jokic, who returned to action after his one-game suspension with a statement, to produce his 59th career triple-double in Denver Nuggets 105-96 victory over the Atlanta Hawks.

Jokic had 22 points, 19 rebounds and 10 assists in this victory, and Aaron Gordon added 23 points for the Nuggets.

On the other end, Jokic saw familiar faces, including Bogdan Bogdanovic who posted 10 points and 3 assists for the Hawks. Trae Young led all Hawks scorers with 30 points and Clint Capela added a double-double with 14 points, 13 boards.

The Dallas Mavericks overcame San Antonio Spurs 123-109 on the road, paced by the strong Luka Doncic – Kristaps Porzingis duo.

Doncic added yet another triple-double to his career achievements with 32 points, 15 assists and 12 rebounds, while Porzingis added a season-high 32 points in Dallas’ third consecutive win against the Spurs this season.

Devin Vassell added 20 points, Dejounte Murray and Keldon Johnson had 15 points each and Doug McDermott had 14 for the Spurs.

Boston Celtics prevailed 122-113 in overtime over reigning champions Milwaukee Bucks that played without Giannis Antetokounmpo on the road.

Dennis Schroder stole the show for the Celtics with a season-high 38 points, 8 of which came in the overtime, while he also added 8 rebounds and 3 assists.

Bucks picked up 22 points by Bobby Portis and Jrue Holiday added 17, along with 13 assists.

Cedi Osman came strong off the bench to drop 17 points in 23 minutes as the Cleveland Cavaliers got a 98-78 victory against the Detroit Pistons at home. Darius Garland led the team with 21 points in total while Ricky Rubio was productive on all ends with 5 points, 9 assists and 5 steals.

Jerami Grant had 16 points for the Pistons that remain at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings.

Damian Lillard poured 20 points and Jusuf Nurkic added 12 points and 9 rebounds along with 3 steals as the Portland Trail Blazers got their first victory on the road this season with 104-92 over the Houston Rockets.

Kevin Porter Jr. led the hosts with 18 points, Alperen Sengun had 12 points coming from the bench and Daniel Theiss added 9.

Jonas Valanciunas fought hard and even gave the New Orleans Pelicans a short advantage in the fourth quarter, though his double-double performance with 20 points and 12 rebounds wasn’t enough to save the day. Brooklyn Nets prevailed with a 120-112 win, led behind James Harden who led all scorers with 39 points, 12 assists. Kevin Durant added 28 points, 8 assists for Brooklyn and Joe Harris had 24.

Lu Dort handed a 105-103 win to Oklahoma over Sacramento after stealing the ball and hitting the winning shot with 1.7 seconds to play. Dort and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander both tapped 22 points, while Aleksej Pokusevski got 16 minutes of action coming from the bench to produce 6 rebounds, 2 assists and one point.

Stephen Curry keeps up his strong performances in front of the Golden State Warriors crowd and this time he dropped 40 points in a 119-93 win against the Chicago Bulls.

Bulls played without Nikola Vucevic who recently tested positive for COVID-19. The team picked up 23 points by Zach LaVine, while DeMar DeRozan added 18.
