The Sacramento Kings fired head coach Luke Walton per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The team is currently sitting at a 6 – 11 record and the 12th place in the Western Conference standings.
Sacramento has been on a quite rough patch, with seven defeats in their last eight games, a key factor behind the club’s decision to dismiss Walton. Wojnarowski reports that Kings associate head coach Alvin Gentry is the more likely candidate to assume interim head coach duties.
The Kings hired Walton as head coach in April 2019. With Walton at the helm, Sacramento finished 12th in the West in both the 2019-20 and the 2020-21 seasons, an extension of the team’s playoff drought that has been going on since 2007.
UPDATE: The Kings announced Walton’s firing and that Gentry takes over as interim head coach.
