The Los Angeles Lakers added more star power over the summer to a roster that already featured LeBron James and Anthony Davis but results have been rather disappointing so far. And the one who is appearing to be under the biggest scrutiny is coach Frank Vogel.
According to Marc Stein, “There is also rising buzz in coaching circles about the pressure mounting on Frank Vogel given the Lakers’ worrisome 10-10 start … given L.A.’s lack of flexibility to make roster changes.” Stein reported this before the team’s 141-137 triple-overtime loss to the Sacramento Kings that dropped them to 10-11. The Kings came back from a 13-point lead in the fourth period to ultimately get the win.
The Lakers began the season with 5-3 after back-to-back wins vs. the Houston Rockets (the worst team in the NBA right now) but results weren’t in their favor for most of November. They lost in five out of their last seven games and barely edged the struggling Detroit Pistons while managing to overcome the Indiana Pacers (third to last in the East) only after James’ heroics in overtime.
