While the Houston Rockets’ initial plan for John Wall was to sit him out until a trade destination emerged, the five-time NBA All-Star guard may be getting back on the floors with the team again. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Wall has been talking with the Rockets and general manager Rafael Stone about potentially returning to action “in the near future”.
The Rockets are focusing on rebuilding this season and giving a lot of playing time to their young players. For Wall to return, the two sides must meet in between in order for the team to not stray away from its development goals and Wall to get the minutes and role that can satisfy him.
Houston and Wall had initially agreed that the player won’t be a part of the active roster this season but now the star guard is looking to play, something that hasn’t happened since last April.
Wall was acquired by the Rockets from the Washington Wizards in December 2020 in the trade that sent Russell Westbrook to Houston. He played 40 games in 2020-21 after his return from an Achilles tear injury, averaging 20.6 points and 6.9 assists.
