Seldom-used Goran Dragic is taking personal leave, the Toronto Raptors announced Sunday evening.
“Goran is taking some time away from the team, with our full support, to manage a personal matter,” said team general manager Bobby Webster in a statement, “He has been a complete professional in the time that he has been with the Raptors.”
Dragic, 35, has been limited to five appearances in the 2021-22 NBA Regular Season. He logged 8 points, 3 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 0.8 steals per contest. He last played two weeks ago.
“Goran has been a great mentor to our younger players and a valued teammate for our veterans,” mentioned Webster regarding the further contribution by the experienced Slovenian point guard, “He will continue to work out and stay in shape during his time away.”
“There is no definite timeline for this process, and we will advise updates as appropriate,” he added, “Goran has the backing of Masai, Nick, and the entire organization, and we wish him nothing but the best.”
He was acquired via trade in August. The Miami Heat packed Dragic together with Precious Achiuwa to bring in Kyle Lowry.
The 2017 EuroBasket champion and MVP of the tournament had joined the Heat midway through the 2015-16 season. The lengthy run generated 431 games played, including 40 in the Playoffs. He previously racked 404 appearances between two stints at the Phoenix Suns and made his way to 88 more games as a member of the Houston Rockets.
