With the holiday season approaching, there is a rapid increase in COVID-19 cases, and several players have entered NBA’s health and safety protocols, per reports by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and The Athletic’s Shams Charania.
Minnesota Timberwolves‘ Anthony Edwards and Taurean Prince New York Knicks‘ Immanuel Quickley, Orlando Magic‘s R.J. Hampton, Terrence Ross, and Moe Wagner, Boston Celtics‘ Al Horford and Grant Williams, and Golden State Warriors‘ Jordan Poole have all entered the protocols as of Friday.
As Wojnarowski further reports, the Sacramento Kings are also still dealing with COVID-19 cases among their players and are “concerned about how quickly the virus is spreading through the organization”. If the team is required by the league to play against the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday, they intend to sign Justin Robinson to a hardship exception.
There is an emerging crisis in the NBA with several more players already placed in the COVID protocols. Besides the players, Sacramento Kings coach Alvin Gentry and Indiana Pacers coach Rick Carlisle have, too, tested positive for COVID-19.
UPDATE: Los Angeles Lakers‘ Kendrick Nunn and Celtics‘ Juancho Hernangomez have also entered the protocols, for a total of 10 players as of Friday.
