Golden State Warriors star Klay Thompson announced on Instagram that his long-awaited return to action will take place Sunday (9/1) against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Thompson will step on an NBA floor for the first time after June 13, 2019, and Game 6 of the NBA Finals.
There was optimism that Thompson will make his comeback vs. the Cavs in Chase Center over the previous week and the Golden State staff ultimately gave him the green light to do so. It will be ideal for the three-time NBA champion and five-time All-Star to step on a basketball floor once more with Warriors fans serenading his return.
It had been rough for Thompson over these two and a half years. After suffering a torn ACL in Game 6 vs. the Toronto Raptors in 2019, the star sharpshooter was initially sidelined just for the next season but his re-entry would be delayed once again.
During the 2020 offseason, Thompson picked up a torn Achilles tendon injury that sidelined him for yet another season, forcing him to miss overall two straight years during the prime of his career.
But these are now part of the past since Thompson gets to play basketball again.
