Giannis Antetokounmpo won the NBA championship, but that’s already history and as he learned from a former champion, that’s how things work.
As Giannis himself explained to “the Athletic” a conversation that he had with Greek legend Theo Papaloukas was enlightening about how the mindset of a champion works.
Per “the Athletic” in Giannis’ words:
I don’t know if you know this guy, but I was talking to this big-time point guard in Greece, Theo Papaloukas, (who) played for the national team, CSKA Moscow, Olympiakos,” Giannis told The Athletic. “He told me, ‘Giannis, this is never going to stop.’ I said, ‘What do you mean this is never going to stop?’ He said, ‘Every time you win something or you accomplish something, you’re going to say, ‘What’s next?’ Because that’s how human beings are built.’ And I came back and I was like, ‘Damn, this is fucking insane, I’m already thinking about what’s next’
Giannis Antetokounmpo has a close relationship with the former Euroleague champion who was the point guard in the historic win of the Greek national team against Team USA in FIBA World Cup 2006.
They even practiced together in November 2020, while Giannis was preparing for the season which ended up with him winning the NBA ring.
Theodoros Papaloukas is also the head of Eurohoops Academy which was recently visited by Giannis.
