The Los Angeles Lakers were one of the eight NBA teams that didn’t make any acquisition at all during the trade period that expired Thursday (10/2). Many expected that the Lakers will complete a deal that will improve a flawed roster in light of the team’s performance problems but the deadline passed with zero moves.
In the aftermath of the trade deadline, Lakers coach Frank Vogel said that his players are now re-focusing their attention and energy to getting back on a winning track. His team is coming off back-to-back losses to the Milwaukee Bucks and the Portland Trail Blazers while dropping six out of its last eight games.
“It’s a new day,” Vogel said. “I think our group had great energy today. Both in a team film session and in practice. I think there’s just a natural reset energy to our group, knowing that the trade deadline has passed. This is the group that we put together to start the year. This is a group we believe in.”
“I think with that deadline passing and having a refreshed mindset today, our group had really good energy about going out and trying to win a game [Saturday] and understanding and believing in what we can do this year,” Vogel added.
The Lakers are 26-30 and ninth in the Western Conference standings.
