Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis suffered a right ankle sprain in the first half of Wednesday’s contest against the Utah Jazz and will remain sidelined for at least two weeks, ESPN’s Dave McMenamin reports.
Davis jumped to grab a lob pass when he came down on Jazz big man Hassan Whiteside and crushed on the court in the second quarter of the game, shocking his teammates, including LeBron James who confirmed Davis left the arena on crutches.
Despite the nasty fall, Davis’ X-rays turned in negative and he is expected to receive treatment during the All-Star break. His condition will be reevaluated when the Lakers get back on practice after the break.
Davis scored 17 points in 17 minutes prior to his injury, as the Lakers overcame the Utah Jazz 106-101 at home.
“Obviously it’s sickening to see AD go down in that fashion,” James told reporters after the game. “I hope he’s fine. Obviously, I mean, I know he’s not like, great, but obviously his health is most important for him individually, for our ballclub. I’ve seen [teammates get injured] too many times, obviously. So I just wish him the best.”
