About a week after Tristan Thompson was traded to the Indiana Pacers, in a deal that included Tyrese Haliburton, and Buddy Hield and also sent Domantas Sabonis to the Sacramento Kings, Thompson is moving on to sign with the Chicago Bulls.
Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle confirmed that the franchise is waiving Thompson, following the team’s 113-108 victory against the Washington Wizards Wednesday. The veteran big dropped 17 points, 6 rebounds in his final game with Indiana and fourth overall after his trade.
“We thanked him for what he’s brought for the last six or seven days,” Carlisle told reporters. “He brought a high level of professionalism and he’s done a really good job.
“I don’t mind announcing it because it’s going to happen and what the heck. There’s nothing wrong with speaking the truth. It’s the rare instance where you get to thank a guy in the presence of his teammates. And these guys have an awful lot of respect for who he is and what he’s accomplished in the league.”
With the move soon expected to become official, Bulls’ star DeMar DeRozan shared his excitement about the incorporation of Thompson to the roster. “I’ve got the utmost respect for him off the court,” he said. “We all know what he brings on the court. I think this would be a great addition for us with what he’s able to bring: veteran leadership, understanding what it takes to win a championship”.
