‘European connection’ between players in the NBA has always been strong and that has become more apparent in recent years as the new generations took over the league. Nikola Jokic has found it interesting as well.
“European players think we all came from one country, it seems like that. We just all get together and talk. It seems we went through the same thing, the same path of playing in Europe and coming here. We just have a lot of similar experiences in the past and it makes some kind of connection,” Jokic told the media during the All-Star weekend. “I know Luka, he speaks my language, I know Giannis he’s European. Pretty much all the guys. I just came here to have fun and enjoy the weekend.”
He seems to have a special relationship with Doncic and he feels it’s mostly due to the language.
“It’s always nice to have someone speak your language and have fun with him. You’re not alone, you know someone is there. I’m happy that he’s here.”
However, that doesn’t mean they will connect the same way on the floor. That remains to be seen.
“We’re going to see on the court. Off the court, I think we’re doing a really good job. I don’t know how we’re gonna do it because he’s not athletic, I’m not athletic… So I don’t know how we’re gonna match.”
