Miami Heat forward Markieff Morris returned to action Saturday after missing 58 games over the course of four months, yet the incident with Nikola Jokic, that kept him sidelined for this long, still upsets him.
Things got heated up between Morris and Jokic in the final minutes of the Heat–Nuggets meeting on November 8, when Morris aggressively bumped Jokic with his elbow and the Nuggets star reacted by hitting him and shoving him down the court.
Morris sustained whiplash from his run-in to the reigning MVP and although the injury didn’t seem serious at first glance, the Heat were hesitant to clear him for a return up to Saturday. Morris had been faced with a neck injury in 2019 which added up to the concerns.
“For the first two weeks, I probably didn’t sleep based on that happening to me and not being able to control the situation,” Morris told reporters. “One of the first times in my life I couldn’t control something. I moved past it. It took me a while. My grandfather called me a bunch of times and told me to move on. That’s what I did.”
When asked about whether there’s been contact between him and Jokic, Morris’ tone changed. “F-ck no, I don’t want to hear from him”, he said.
Back in January, the Heat forward called out Jokic, calling him a “sloppy, fat boy” while commenting on his injury. Their altercation blew up on social media as well, with Jokic’s brothers warning Morris via Twitter. Both players received sanctions from the league after the incident, and bad blood seems to still exist between them.
