Kyrie Irving banked in 60 points to lead the Brooklyn Nets past the Orlando Magic in a 150-108 win. His performance marked a career-high as well as a franchise-best.
“I’m just glad that it wasn’t an empty 50-plus game,” Irving said.
Irving shot 20-31 from the field and 8-12 from the three-point territory. He had 41 points already by halftime and that also set multiple records. It was the highest-scoring half of his career and the highest-scoring half for any player this season.
Coach Steve Nash had big praise ready for his player.
“He’s just incredible. I felt like he had my career highlight reel in the first 12 minutes of the game. It’s special to watch him every night — but it’s special to watch him on nights like this, where he’s in total control, total command. He gets wherever he wants and is able to finish amongst the trees. It’s just a pleasure to see it up close and to be a part of it.”
In the previous game, Kevin Durant was the one firing up with 53 points against the New York Knicks and the Nets duo made history with a unique feat. They became the first teammates in NBA history to score 50 or more points in consecutive games. Irving was no doubt happy about it.
“Making history, man. making history. Doing it with that guy is very special. But credit goes to our group. Our guys in our locker room, they really believe in us, they really rock with us, there’s not a doubt in our mind that they really believe that we can do something special. And not just this year, but for years to come. We have a good group. And we’re all sacrificing something that’s bigger than ourselves.”
