The Brooklyn Nets are about to be reinforced for their remaining of their homecourt games for the 2021-22 season, as Kyrie Irving is set to make his homecourt return despite being unvaccinated.
Per ESPN reports, New York City Mayor Eric Adams will announce the lift of the mandate for athletes and performers Thursday, paving the way for Irving’s return in Barclays Center.
Irving, 30, has missed all 35 home games of the Brooklyn Nets this season, while he made his season debut in early January. So far he is averaging 27.7 points across 19 contests. His presence will surely boost the Nets, which are currently eighth in the Eastern Conference and bound to compete in the play-in tournament that starts on April 12.
Up to Thursday, Irving was allowed to enter the arena, but he was prohibited from entering the workplace environment. Reports surfaced earlier in March that the player was allowed to enter the Nets’ lockers (which are considered ‘workplace environment), and the team ended up being fined $50,000 by the league for this violation.
