LA Clippers head coach Ty Lue made a controversial remark in regards to the number of free throws the Sixers duo of Joel Embiid – James Harden is shooting per game, as a follow-up to their Friday matchup which Sixers won 122-97.
Lue commented that neither of the two would be ranked in the Top 10 of scorers hadn’t it been for the free throws, and Sixers President Daryl Morey had his own response to share via Twitter while quoting Eurohoops.
Morey argues that the Clippers’ offense would drop to the 30th spot in the league without the free throws, highlighting the fact that the team’s offensive weapons can’t be stopped otherwise. In fact, the Clippers would score 92 points per game without their trips to the stripe and Oklahoma City Thunder would follow with 103 ppg (via Reddit).
The Embiid – Harden duo is powering the Philadelphia 76ers ever since the latter’s trade to the franchise. Besides both being elite scorers, they also have the ability to draw fouls like few other players in the league, averaging 11.8 and 8.4 free throws per game each.
The Sixers are currently leading the Eastern Conference standings with a 46-27 record, following Saturday night losses for the Miami Heat and the Milwaukee Bucks.
