Dallas Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki joined NBA Europe to pick his all-time NBA European First and Second Team, as part of the NBA 75 Euro vote.
Nowitzki, 43, saw his No. 41 climb up the American Airlines Center, home of the Mavs, in early 2022, yet he remains active in the franchise as a special advisor following an illustrious career that paved the way for the younger generations of European players in the NBA.
Nowitzki picked current stars Giannis Antetokounmpo and Luka Doncic to be featured on his first team. “It’s a short sample size for Luka, but he’s obviously in the conversation, so I’m going to use him. And he’s my boy, so that’s five [fifth pick”, Nowitzki commented while making his selection.
Featured among his first selections were Tony Parker, the late Drazen Petrovic, and recently retired Pau Gasol.
“Love Jokic, so that’s six”, Nowitzki added with a grin. Fellow German Detlef Schrempf entered the selection next, followed by Peja Stojakovic, Toni Kukoc and Arvydas Sabonis.
Here are Nowitzki’s selections:
First Team: Tony Parker, Drazen Petrovic, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Pau Gasol, Luka Doncic
Second Team: Nikola Jokic, Detlef Schrempf, Peja Stojakovic, Toni Kukoc, Arvydas Sabonis
