Facu Campazzo hopes to remain in the NBA but doesn’t exclude a return to Europe next season

The season for the Denver Nuggets is over after losing in the first round against the Golden State Warriors (4-1) and Facu Campazzo is looking ahead to his future, as he’s entering free agency on July 1st.

The 31-year-old point guard just finished his second campaign with the Nuggets, and it has been a rocky one. Compared to his 2020-21 numbers (6.1 points per game across 22 minutes), Campazzo only played 18 minutes on average, scoring 5.1 points per game with decreased shooting percentages. With a loaded backcourt and the subsequent addition of Bryn Forbes to the roster, Campazzo saw his role in the team lessen which reportedly led his agents to ask Denver for a trade that ultimately didn’t happen.

Despite a tough season for the Argentinian international, his objective remains to continue in the NBA, yet he doesn’t rule out a return to Europe.

“Facu’s initial objective is to continue in the NBA”, a source close to the player told infobae’s Julian Mozo. “It will be seen what offers arrive, although he already knows that not much will be known until July. But he wants to continue, try to play at least one more season. […] If the offers are bad, he will not follow. But that is his intention, to look for another chance and, in that sense, he is going to prioritize sports over economics”

“Returning to Europe is not ruled out, but his priority intention is the NBA, even if he has to row it from behind”.

Prior to making the jump to the NBA, Campazzo spent six years in Spain between Real Madrid and UCAM Murcia. He was part of the Real Madrid roster that lifted the EuroLeague title in 2015 and 2018, while he led the squad to three domestic league titles (2015, 2018, 2019).
