Zion Williamson mentioned once again that his goal is to continue with the New Orleans Pelicans, despite rumors pointing to the opposite.
“I do want to be here. That’s no secret,” Williamson said when he was asked if a camp that he’s holding in New Orleans means that he wants to stay with the Pelicans, per ESPN. “I feel like I’ve stood on that when I spoke.”
During the 2021-22 season, it was rumored that Williams wants out of the Pelicans and that his family is pushing him in that direction. First Take’s Stephen Smith said in one of his shows that, “… the bottom line is everybody knows he [Williamson] ain’t interested in being in New Orleans,” while The Athletic reported how “…certain family members want Williamson on another team.”
In the meantime, Williamson, the No. 1 overall pick of 2019, was still trying to rehabilitate his broken foot. The young star was ultimately cleared to play on May 26, some weeks after his team returned to the playoffs for the first time since 2018.
Williamson hasn’t stepped on the floor since May 4, 2021, and a 108 – 103 Pelicans win over the Golden State Warriors. He had 23 points, 12 rebounds, and seven assists in that match.
