Extending the effort to help – international or not – players, NBPA will introduce One Court Milan from 14 to 16 June, as announced Monday.
Among others, Italian Danilo Gallinari, Bosnian Jusuf Nurkic, Lithuanian Jonas Valanciunas, and Greek Thanasis Antetokounmpo will be present in Milan, Italy.
The NBPA Foundation will also host its third More Than a Game youth leadership program.
Per the press release: “The National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) in collaboration with SDA Bocconi School of Management announced today the launch of One Court Milan. From June 14-16, the One Court Milan experience has been designed as a platform for players to network and learn from founders, creators, and C-suite executives of global luxury brands. The experience will be curated by faculty at SDA Bocconi School of Management to ensure players are able to apply the information from this program towards the development of their personal brands on a global scale.
One Court Milan is a continuation of the NBPA’s efforts to assist and support players in recognizing their influence on the international stage. From 2017-2019, the NBPA’s International Business Academy (IBA) provided classroom learning sessions as well as on-site experiential activities to help players better understand the different facets of international business and marketing.
Alongside the One Court Milan experience, the NBPA Foundation will host its third More Than a Game youth leadership program that explores the convergence of basketball and social impact. Through this program, the NBPA Foundation will engage players and 20 co-ed youth from the TamTam Basketball Academy based in Castel Volturno. Youth participants will have the unique opportunity to learn about the intersection of basketball, culture, and identity as well as explore resources to empower themselves to be change-makers in their own communities.
TamTam, a grant recipient and partner of the NBPA Foundation, is a youth basketball program that supports children born and raised in Italy to immigrant parents. Through their programming, TamTam hosts youth basketball tournaments throughout Italy with a focus on removing barriers to youth sports, building community, and providing mental health resources.
“With their ever-growing access and influence, we want to make sure the players have all the tools they need to capitalize on the global opportunities available to them,” said Matteo Zuretti, NBPA Chief of International Relations and Marketing. “We had amazing momentum with the International Business Academy before the coronavirus pandemic which is why we are so excited to be back in person this year with One Court Milan. We look forward to what this week has to offer and to providing our players with a truly invaluable experience.”
“The players have proven themselves to be thoughtful philanthropists and community champions,” said Lyzz Ogunwo, acting Executive Director of the NBPA Foundation. “Having a platform at One Court Milan to integrate youth programming with the TamTam Basketball Academy is a great way to amplify and support both our next generation of changemakers and our players as leaders on a global scale.”
