The Brooklyn Nets appear to have more things to worry about than Kyrie Irving’s contract situation itself since the whole affair may also affect Kevin Durant and his willingness to stay with the team.
Durant is following the situation surrounding his team and “considering options with his future,” The Athletic’s Shams Charania reports. Essentially, if Irving doesn’t get the extension he wants and asks to be moved via a sign-and-trade deal, then Durant may decide that he wants to leave the club as well.
It was previously reported that Durant won’t be that excited to play with Brooklyn with Irving out of the team and the roster losing another one of its superstars, thus getting its championship potential reduced. KD is on a four-year, 198 million contract he signed with the Nets in 2021 but any team would jump at the opportunity to get such a player and clear any necessary cap space if he becomes available for a trade.
