After agreeing to a buyout with the Houston Rockets, guard John Wall plans to sign a free-agent deal with the LA Clippers, according to ESPN.
“Wall, who was due $47.4 million from the Rockets after exercising the player option for the final year of his contract, agreed to take $6.5 million less to become a free agent, a source told ESPN. That is roughly the amount of the taxpayer midlevel exception, which Wall could receive once he is able to negotiate a deal with the Clippers,” the report by Adrian Wojnarowski stated.
Wall averaged 20.6 points and 6.9 assists in 40 games for the Rockets in the 2020-21 campaign but he didn’t play last season. Houston was focused on developing young players and there was no place for Wall in such a system despite his big salary.
The 31-year-old guard would form a big three on the Clippers with Kawhi Leonard who is returning from injury and Paul George. The LA squad finished ninth in the Western Conference last season with a 42-40 record and got eliminated by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the play-in tournament.
