Jalen Brunson had a breakthrough run with the Dallas Mavericks in the 2022 playoffs and he set himself up for a potentially lucrative deal and a leading role. But with a different team and the New York Knicks are leading the race.
The Knicks traded center Nerlens Noel and guard Alec Burks to the Detroit Pistons, clearing $19 million in additional salary-cap space, and they are now able to make an overwhelming contract offer in the neighborhood of $110 million to the free-agent guard, per ESPN.
New York also included two second-round picks and 6 million dollars, freeing approximately 30 million dollars in cap space.
Brunson averaged 21.6 points during the playoffs including a 41 and 31-point performances against the Utah Jazz in the first round.
