Zion Williamson has agreed on a five-year, $193 million maximum rookie extension with the New Orleans Pelicans, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
These 193 million could be just the start of what Williamson is projected to earn according to the bonuses included in the deal. If the young star is named to any of the All-NBA teams, wins MVP or Defensive Player of the Year next season then certain clauses will be activated that may increase the sum of the deal to 231 million.
If Williamson is healthy and performs according to his capabilities, then it’s highly likely that he will make at least an All-NBA team. The 21-year-old forward last played a game on May 4, 2021, trying to full rehabilitate a broken foot and then working towards reclaiming his pre-injury form and condition.
The Pelicans picked Williamson with the No. 1 overall pick in 2019. Before his injury, he averaged 27.0 points, 7.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 2020-21, earning his first All-Star honors.
